Juan Carlos Romero was born in Huelva on August 18, 1964. He starts at the age of 8 years with his father, a guitar big fan. With ten years of age begins to take lessons with the person he considers his first grandmaster, Miguel “The tomato Almería”, initiating a major series of guitarists as his own “The Boy Miguel”, or his grandson “Tomatito”. He began his first contacts with the accompaniment of singing and dancing in the school of Matilde Coral and Rafael “El Negro” and later with Manolo Marín and ” El Mimbre.”
His guitar envelops the singing of leading figures of flamenco as José Mercé, Turronero, Chano Lobato, Paco Toronjo, Boqueron, and so on. Soon after, he gets the National Award at the prestigious guitar competition in Jerez de la Frontera, in the form of concert. His cooperation is requested by the great maestro Manolo Sanlúcar, traveling the world giving concerts in halls and theaters of mayor relevance in the music scene, and the inclusion in the records of the genius Sanlúcar, with works for guitar and orchestra and “Solea” and “Medea,” which were composed for the National Ballet of Spain. This important and fruitful stage is crucial for the maturation and strength of his artistic personality and more demanding every day. In 1992, during The Universal Exposition of Seville, participates in the play “La Gallarda”, by Rafael Alberti, as first guitarist, between voices and actors such as Montserrat Caballé, Ana Belén, José Sacristán, the choreography by José Antonio Symphony Orchestra and the Canary Islands. His performance is required on the soundtrack and subsequent shooting of the films directed by Carlos Saura, “Sevillanas” and “Flamenco” with an extensive list of the most important artists of singing, dance and guitar.
Sevilla´s Bienal in 1994, hosts the premiere of ” A oscuras” which successfully premiered at the Teatro de la Maestranza, highlighting his participation alongside Enrique Morente and Esperanza Fernández. Shares the stage with the singer Carmen Linares embarking on a tour throughout Spain with the play “La Parrala.” His compositions are performed by artists in demand and as significant as Rocío Jurado, Enrique Morente, Carmen Linares and El Pele, who also writes and produces some of his records, and many of his numerous television appearances, both nationally and internationally. In 1997 launches “Azulejo” the title of his first solo album, with which he obtained recognition from audiences and critics, his work as soloist and composer. His performance in many of the best Spanish and European theaters are the best guarantee of his work. In 1998, atthe X Bienal of Flamenco Art in Seville, is presented with “Abanao” a show created and directed by him, adding to his compositions for guitar, the dance of Eva “La Yerbabuena” and the songs played by “El Pele” and Susi. An enthusiastic audience response and the rave reviews have appeared in various media, signed the success that this show had. In January of 1999, the Andaluza Dancing Company, chose his music for the premiere of the show titled ” Un ramito de locura” whose choreography was performed by the dancer Javier Barón. In 2000 composes and play for Carmen Linares in the production of Maestranza theatre in Seville “The light, joy and melancholy” In 2001 he composes, plays and produces the album the singer “Arcángel“, for the Yerbabuena Company (Virgin) and goes on tour with him that year.
In 2002, at the XII Bienal of Flamenco Art in Seville, at the Teatro Lope de Vega presents the show “Ritmo Jondo” with the orchestra of “The Arts” and the Big Band, performing flamenco compositions with symphonic accompaniment metals. At the same Bienal features the play of Cervantes “Rinconete and Cortadillo” choreographed by Javier Latorre hose musical composition was provided by Juan Carlos Romero and Mauricio Sotelo, this contemporary musician prestigious ballet was premiered at the Biennale and the music also was widely recognized. In 2003, contributes on the album entitled “Territorio Flamenco “ with the singers Carmen Linares and Estrella Morente. That same year he started recording his second solo album, now on sale, entitled “Romero” with the collaboration of artists such as Eva” La Yerbabuena “and Estrella Morente. In 2004 he started a tour of theaters in Andalucía with the collaboration of Miguel Poveda Rafael Campallo singing and dancing. In January 2005 he received the Critics Award in Spain in 2004. On behalf of the agency for the development of flamenco created the show “The eternal return” for the dancer Rocío Molina that opened in Malaga. His new show, which displays the flamenco guitar performing hitherto unexplored possibilities, is a beautiful play entitled “Sounds like Romero” which premiered at Seville’s Bienal de Flamenco and which will continue touring.
The prestigious SONG LINE British magazine recognizes his album ”Romero” with a rating of excellent and as one of the best work record of the year.
Also at the Flamenco Bienal in September 2006 presented the latest work by Miguel Poveda “Tierra de calma” which Romero is the producer and composer of most of the music and lyrics, being nominated for music awards 2007 as best flamenco album for this work. In Seville’s Flamenco Bienal of 2008 premiered the show “Raíces y Alas”, a tribute to Juan Ramón Jiménez, sung by Carmen Linares, guitar composition and artistic direction of Juan Carlos Romero. For this work received the “Giradillo al toque” granted by the Biennial Award of the press “Mario Maya” the best musical granted by the Flemish journalists and critics, National Critics Award 2008 and the Prize of the Academy Music as a composer, to the best flamenco album.
In 2009 Juan Carlos Romero received the music award for the Best Flamenco Album and as author of the album “Raíces y Alas” performed by Carmen Linares and Juan Ramón Jiménez letters. That same year, combines the work of this disc with the accompaniment of guitar playing from artists like Miguel Poveda.
In 2010 he was awarded the Golden Giraldillo at Sevilla´s Flamenco Bienal as a guitar player, where he presented his new work “Agua Encendida”, causing a great impression with repercurcion media in all print media in the city.
